Introduction

 

OTSAA’s mission is to create bridges among distanced Islands of the globe. This Guidebook was published thru the great wonder of Information Technology in all websites around the planet. As it was envision manifesting all artists and enthusiasts to gather and provoke the great example of unity by means of art.

 

This guidebook will serve for all its participants, art couches, trainers, art communities, and international art individuals and groups. Annually OTSAA introduces new art events for the benefits of its regular participants to widen up their art experience. The traditional events are still practices to polish the craftsmanship of its participants. They are some new events that participants must be ready to prepare before the day of the annual meeting.  This revised edition of Guide book will be available on line http://www.otsaa.cjb.net to share as gift to all our OTSAA International members and all arts organizations around the world to promote the propagations of peace and saving our environment. This will be their reminder while they are polishing and improving their artistic craftsmanship and creative skills.



            Timetable and program published on this book may slightly change on the result of un-expected circumstances. Official announcement regarding changes are simultaneously publish at the website page of OTSAA http://www.otsaa.cjb.net/ to avoid miscommunications.
  However OTSAA-International may only use this as reference guides and create there own time and date to execute their own version of Art Experience. OTSAA-International Secretariat is suggesting each country to send update documentations (result of their project and photo file in jpeg copy) for them to be seen on OTSAA website as part of the mission and vision of the organization.

          As promulgating its mission and vision, this traditional art activity practices of all its community in the Philippines to uplift the high view of standard in arts and its environment. This book may serve as great reference for its entire interested individual and may it will influence them to become more sensitive around their surroundings.

The Participants

All competition of art events are open to participate by all ages as it was divided into different groups as category. However All participants must have no One-man art exhibits in all listed art events and consider as amateur participants. Professional Category is in one group and defends on what event they are included to enjoy the fun of competition. Higher-level competitions on most events are open to be participated by ages 11 above (age 11 as it was agreed during the 3rd Summer Art Experience in Davao City 2002), this need more skill advantage, technique and great stamina to move from one event to another and one level to another level. This will give a chance the participants to meet the medal score for Gold as qualified finalist for the “Artist of the Year”

The Artist of the Year

He/She is the model youth artists to crowned symbol of all young amateur artists for the annual OTSAA’s summer art experience.

OTSAA awarded this highest award from among the delegates and contestants during on its annual “Summer Art Experience”. During the weeklong of competitions and exhibition of skills, OTSAA will determine and counts their gathered medals and recognitions. To qualified, the contestants must be skillfully winners of different events, with collected kind of medal (gold, silver, and Bronze) will serve as the point’s basis of their qualification. The recipient will received a sculptured brass Laurel crown as symbol of artistic excellent in the field of OTSAA’s discipline. Qualified contestant must have no single one-man show in any art discipline. The crowned artists of the year may continue participating until they reach the age of 40 years old of age. He/She can defend their crown in annually meeting.

For the World Art Experience, which celebrated biennale period, this will be more challenging to all its participating nations. The chance to get this highest award is to be chance to hold its Glory as world artist model for good and skilled person.

             OTSAA will hope through these young artists will able to continue the mission and vision of the organization and be the leaders of the future generations.

Longest Painting that unite participants to the annual theme

 OTSAA Highlighted activity annually is the breaking the past-recorded measurement of the longest documented painting on canvas. This activity will be the last of the event and non-competition, but more have the collaborative and interaction among the participants and the people of the host city. Here individual artists and enthusiasts will express the main annual theme. OTSAA committed the annual theme as in support to the United Nation’s DECADE FOR CULTURE OF PEACE AND NON-VIOLENCE FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD, as our National Commission for the Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is also pursuing this campaign program.

Open Category:


Higher competition will be marked as open category in which only ages of 10 years old up to 25 years old can enter to this event.

Open Ages:
Photography has no age’s breakdown. Open to all ages and members willing to participate.

Group competition category:


Group competition, this category is for group representing of the city or the organization that will compete by group. All ages category are included, medal or award of the group are counted for individual medal tally, and the city will have a chance to gather a big bulk of medal points. For International use, will have the same application. 

 Materials used:

Standard materials such as canvas, drawing paper, painting medium are usually provided by the OTSAA competition Committee to set up a standard trend and strict rules. If there are some events does not require standard medium, OTSAA competition Committee always announce it officially. This will only decide of choosing materials on occasional situation.

 Art Coach / adviser:


Art Coaches or adviser is not allowed to touch the hands of their contestants during the competition process. They are not also allowed to direct pointing in by hands to the drawing surface of their competing contestant. The role of the art coach or adviser is to assist their contestant during the competition by giving them with material or drinking water needed. Talking with contestants during the competition by the art coach or adviser must not be attracting attention to others. All above advises must followed by the art coach or adviser to avoid demerit or disqualification as decided by the roving judge.

 

The Participants in Higher level competition

 

In higher level of competitions such as on-the-spot sketching, painting are usually arrange in circular formation. The easel stands are all facing center toward the model platform. Traditionally the regional participant has given a chance to participate in three elimination’s round. Here, the big number of participants has a big chance to qualified in the finals. For the International Competitions, Five elimination’s round. All participants will draw their corresponded number of easel stand assigned. The participants will judge according to their interpretation of the subject, and chosen on the judge’s choice with its own personal criteria and decision.

 VISUAL ART COMPETITION

 On–the-spot art competition

This is usually a drawing or painting using any medium by interpreting the theme or the subject before it implements. Usually the competition execute in three hours.  This can be participating by all age’s categories to see the result of different views of the participants.

On-the-spot Figure Painting Competition

There will be easel board stands surrounding the flatworm. Each easel stand has a corresponding number visible to the contestants and to the judge. The contestants will draw their number and they are going to the correspondent assigned easel stand. The model will be coming out and position his/her to the center platform. At the start of time, the model will pose up to finish the given time for the competition. This event has to go for the elimination’s round before it proceed to the finals. All winners (Gold, silver, bronze) of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. Medal received from elimination’s round is counting points already for the participants and to the City/country. The contest runs for 10 minutes each round and 15 minutes for final round.

On-the-spot Figure Sketching competition

There will be easel board stands surrounding the flatworm. Each easel stand has a corresponding number visible to the contestants and to the judge. The contestants will draw their number and they are going to the correspondent assigned easel stand. The model will be coming out and position his/her to the center platform. At the start of time, the model will pose up to finish the given time for the competition. This event has to go for the elimination’s round before it proceed to the finals. All winners (Gold, silver, bronze) of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. Medal received from elimination’s round is counting points already for the participants and to the City/country. The contest runs for 10 minutes each round and 15 minutes for final round.

 On the spot Geometric and texture competition

There will be easel board stands surrounding the flatworm. Each easel stand has a corresponding number visible to the contestants and to the judge. The contestants will draw their number and they are going to the correspondent assigned easel stand. The host will be coming out to center platform to read the instructions of the artwork to do twice with out accepting any questions from the contestants. The art coach or teacher may stand beside the contestants to explain or translate the announce instructions. At the start of time, the host will ring the bell to start the official time. This event has to go for the elimination’s round before it proceed to the finals. All winners (Gold, silver, bronze) of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. Medal received from elimination’s round is counting points already for the participants and to the City/country. The contest runs for 10 minutes each round and 15 minutes for final round.

On the spot landscaping Brush painting competition

Painting tool to be use on this event paint brushes as to test the ability of the contestants to capture the view of its surrounding. There will be easel board stands surrounding the flatworm. Each easel stand has a corresponding number visible to the contestants and to the judge. The contestants will draw their number and they are going to the correspondent assigned easel stand. The contestants will be facing out to the circular formation and position themselves toward the outer direction. All what they see in front of them, will be their subject for landscape painting. The bell rings to start the time, The contestants will paint up to finish till the given time for the competition. This event has to go for the elimination’s round before it proceed to the finals. All three winner of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. All winners (Gold, silver, bronze) of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. Medal received from elimination’s round is counting points already for the participants and to the City/country. The contest runs for 10 minutes each round and 15 minutes for final round.

On the spot landscaping palette knife painting competition

Painting tool to be use on this event are palette knives as to test the ability of the contestants to capture the view of its surrounding. There will be easel board stands surrounding the flatworm. Each easel stand has a corresponding number visible to the contestants and to the judge. The contestants will draw their number and they are going to the correspondent assigned easel stand. The contestants will be facing out to the circular formation and position themselves toward the outer direction. All what they see in front of them, will be their subject for landscape painting. The bell rings to start the time, the contestants will paint up to finish till the given time for the competition. This event has to go for the elimination’s round before it proceed to the finals. All three winner of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. All winners (Gold, silver, bronze) of each round are qualified to compete for the finals. Medal received from elimination’s round is counting points already for the participants and to the City/country. The contest runs for 10 minutes each round and 15 minutes for final round. 

*On-the-spot Acrylic painting competition in Mural base (Single)

4 feet by 8 feet plywood will serve as the giant painting board by the participants. Each city/national will pick their participant to compete on this eight-hour painting competition. The works must executed by acrylic paint in any techniques and interpret the announced theme. The judges will award three winners.

*On-the-spot Acrylic painting competition in Mural base composition (Group)          

8 feet by 12 feet plywood will serve as the giant painting board by the participants. Each city/national will pick their four participants to form a group and to compete on this eight-hour painting competition. The works must executed by acrylic paint in any techniques and interpret the announced theme. The judges will award three winners.

On the spot Collage competition

Contestant will execute thematic artwork on this event by gathering any non-bio degradable and non-harmful materials found around their surroundings. They will create and compose artwork by pasting found objects and mix it with glue and paints to create certain work of art that will express according to the announced theme.  Judges will be selecting ten best works. The ten will be call in to give their statement to their work with in a minute of explanation. The top Three will be announced and proclaim the final winners. Usually the competition committee will announce the time frame of working on the assemblage work. The competition is for all category levels, however the Category D is the only category level with ten finalists to given chance to defends their work in front of the judges and the crowd.

PRINTMAKING COMPETITION

Single color mono-print in linocut. Three identical copies

This very basic mono-printing method will only use for single rubber plate, and it is defend to the contestant to explore other possibilities, to add texture by not adding another plate. Using single color is strictly imposed. Time for the competition usually spend for longer and quite period of time. This is allowed to execute in their assigned workshop booth. Contest announced before the closing of the day and submits it on the following activity day. Ebtry is submitted in three identical copies. 

Two colors linocut print. Thee identical copies
This very basic mono-printing method will only use for single rubber plate, and it is defend to the contestant to explore other possibilities, to add texture by not adding another plate. Using single two colors is strictly imposed. Time for the competition usually spend for longer and quite period of time. This is allowed to execute in their assigned workshop booth. Contest announced before the closing of the day and submits it on the following activity day. Entry is submitted in three identical copies.

Multi color linocut print. Three identical copies

This very basic mono-printing method will only use for single rubber plate, and it is defend to the contestant to explore other possibilities, to add texture by not adding another plate. Using multi color or multi tones of three or more is strictly imposed. Time for the competition usually spend for longer and quite period of time. This is allowed to execute in their assigned workshop booth. Contest announced before the closing of the day and submits it on the following activity day. Entry is submitted in three identical copies.

POETRY

Short Poem writing competition
It is an open category. Contestant will submit short poem Minimum of 150 words and maximum of three hundred words. This will paste on a piece of board as given by the secretariat. The theme will be according to the annual theme. Judges will select three best entries from all levels of category except category – F

 Short poem reading competitionIt is an open category. Contestant will be picking from ten outstanding written poems. This will paste on a piece of board as given by the secretariat. The ten contestants will have a chance to read with all emotions and theatrical interpretations freely. They will judge according to the best they can interpret the written poem. Judges will select three best declaimers and declare the winners.

Short children’s story writing competition

Contestants are expected to have already prepared for their story. Materials should be type written or printed hand written. Illustration is not required, this must submit separately to avoid confusion with panelists. Ten finalists will call on stage to speak about the story written, the panelists and the judge will listen for the story he/she talking about. There will be question and answer as to given chance the contestants and the judges to understands the flow of the story. Judges will judge the best-written children short story and announced the three winners.

Short children’s story book illustration competition

 Contestants are expected to submit their Illustrated book. Blank book pages are only provided by OTSAA secretariat. The contest blank book material will only given awy during the closing of the day activity and submit it on the first hour of the next morning schedule. Only three entries per city or country are allowed to submit the entry. Materials should be spread out into ten (10) pages including the front and back Cover as base on the provided blank pages. Judges will judge the best-storybook illustration on children short story and announced the three winners.

Sculpture competition

On-the-spot assemblage competition (single)

As the Theme is announce, the contestants may start gathering materials have bring out ready materials to start assembling the 3-D sculpture. The Artwork must not exceed in Three-square cubic foot. This is an open category with no age’s exceptions. Best work according to the execution of the theme and materials will be judge and choose the best three entries.

On-the-spot assemblage competition (Group of four)

As the Theme is announce, the contestants with four members in a group may start gathering materials have bring out ready materials to start assembling the 3-D sculpture. The Artwork must not exceed in Three-square cubic foot. This is an open category with no age’s exceptions. Best work according to the execution of the theme and materials will be judge and choose the best three entries.

On-the-spot Sphere competition (Group of four)

As the Theme is announce, the contestants may start gathering materials have bring out ready materials to start assembling the 3-D sculpture. The Artwork must not exceed in Four feet Sphere global round. This is an open category with age’s exceptions. Best work according to the execution of the theme and materials will be judge and choose the best three entries.

*On-the-spot Higante (Giant puppet) competition (Group ten)

Collaborative team effort, this new event is only applied for the World Art Experience in 2004 competition. There will be required of ten members of the group. If the National members are needed to fill up the number of the team, the host city will assign them with collaborator folk from member of the town assigned to the country. The Higante or Giant puppet making is traditionally celebrates in municipal of Angono. They will collaborate with twns folk for proper guidance and cultural sharing.  As the Theme is announce, the theme may start gathering materials have bring out ready materials to start assembling the 3-D sculpture. The Artwork must be done in traditional way. This is an open category with age’s exceptions. Best work according to the execution of the theme and materials will be judge and choose the best three entries. The winners will be announced on the closing ceremony and parade of the WAE-2004

On-the-spot 3-D figure competition in plaster

 As the Theme is announce, the contestants may start bring out ready plaster of paris materials to start assembling the 3-D sculpture. The Artwork must not exceed in Three-square cubic foot. This is an open category with no age’s exceptions. Best work according to the execution of the theme and materials will be judge and choose the best three entries.

 Costume Design and contruction competition (Single)

On-the-spot performance art competition

 Costume design and construction assemblage is for open category. Contestants may participate to create an instant costume executed with in three-hour period. This will be exhibited on the ramp immediately after the final count down of the contest. The designer and the model will awarded and judge in separate event. The Designer will award for the Costume design and construction competition, and the Model will award on Performance art competition as they perform while walking on the cut walk as they are judging according to performance act.

 ART-TRIATHLON

 On-the-spot art competition in three mediums on single subject. There will be three members of the team. Each team will represent their city/national. The first round will start on Sketching competition, as the model will pose centered of the encircled contestants. After 20 minutes of sketching sessions, the next group will be the remaining two members of the each team and competing to interpret the sketched into Acrylic brush painting on canvas and plaster of paris sculpture in two feet height. The team will be judge according to their coordination and collaborative team effort. The competition will last for another two hour. The judges will choose the best three groups on this event.

MIXED-MEDIA ART COMPETITION

On-the-spot Art competition

Art work on flat surface mixed media-collage making (Single)

All participants are allowed to use any kind non-harmful materials by creating composition of art piece according to the announced theme. The judges will select three winners from each category levels. The execution of the work will only last for three working hours.

Art work on flat surface mixed media-collage making (Group)

Each City/country will only send four members for a group to compete on this event. Participants are allowed to use any kind of non-harmful materials by creating a collaborative composition of art piece according to the announced theme. The judge will select three winners. The execution of the work will only last for only three hours.

*On-the-spot Mask competition in Ritual (Single)

The judges will choose open Category in All ages but only three winners. The mask making will be executed according to ritual veneration of nature. This should wearable and ready to ramp on stage for the public viewing and judging. The creation of works must be done during the night at the assigned workshops. The command to start will be immediately after the closing of the day’s activity and ready to submit on the first hour morning activity.

On-the-spot Mask competition in Festival (Single)

The judges will choose open Category in All ages but only three winners. The mask making will be executed according to their regional festivals or celebrations.  DANCE AND MUSIC COMPETITION

Dance is non-tradition or non-conventional type of execution and even the music is composing according to non-traditional instruments that create a soundscape of melody. For International competition like WAE, there will be elimination’s by regions (Asia/ Africa/ America/ Europe/ Pacific) before facing the finals.

 Dance and Music for ritual (single performer)

Single Dancer with full costume and accompanied by two musicians. The dancer will perform in not more than three minutes of interpretations. The ritual is base on the announced theme of the event. Three winners will be chosen in Dance, and the accompanying two musicians will automatically win the same award and credited to music.

 Dance and Music for ritual (Group performers)

Four to six members of dancers with full costume and accompanied by two musicians. The group will perform in not more than three minutes of interpretations. The ritual is base on the announced theme of the event. Three winners will be chosen in Dance, and the accompanying two musicians will automatically win the same award and credited to music.

PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

 The Photography competition is open to all delegates and participants. They will submit their work with four days from the time it was announce formally of the competition. All entry must be submitted in 5-R gloss or silk paper with border. The contestants may submit as many entries as they want and may join in as they wish in all twelve-subject division. Every entry must be with written identification at the back of the photo for proper segregation of entry. Each Division will be choosing three top winners.
